The staff have been amazing!

5 minute read

At the start of July, Langtree welcomed its first resident, Doreen. It was fitting that she moved from Worthington Lake Care Home, showcasing care continuity in action at the Standish Care Village.

Previously, residents within the Standish Care Village, at both Lakeside and Worthington Lake Care Home, have had to move homes when their condition has changed. This has led to relationships being stretched and long-distance moves, which are disrupting for the residents, their loved ones and Millennium Care staff.

Thankfully, Langtree Care Home came at the right time for Doreen.

“Doreen had been at Worthington Lake since early October 2023 because she was unable to care for herself in her own surroundings.

“As time went by, it was agreed by the family and staff that she now needed more nursing care than before, as her condition had declined.

“She was ‘lucky’ in the way that Langtree had just been completed, and she was able to move next door. We, as a family, were unsure how she would react to the move. Would she even go or refuse?

“But with the help of Debbie, one of Doreen’s most trusted carers, she moved in without hesitation. She had a few unsettled nights in her new surroundings at first, but has now settled into her new room surrounded by her own belongings, moved over by the staff.”

“I was on shift when Doreen was first brought in, with her it’s all about trust. I got her settled in her room and made her a brew.

“I was so glad the transition went so well. There was an opportunity, and we were prepared, and she was welcomed into Langtree with a cup of tea in a nice piece of China and a piece of cake.”

“She loves beautiful things, and she was able to take it all in at her new home – all the pictures and trinkets.

“Doreen has played a massive part in my time at Worthington Lake. I have so much time for her, and I’ll never forget her. I’m really looking forward to seeing her; we have a special bond.”

“Again, I’m delighted for her and her family that the transition went well because on that day, she was happy.”

“Since moving in she has had her ups and downs, but on the whole is quite settled and happy.

“It was important to us that she had the continuity of care that she had received at Worthington in a similar décor as not to confuse her even more.

“The staff have been amazing, making Doreen feel so secure and cared for. Our visits have been less stressful, not perfect, but at the moment better than before.”
