Who says a care home can’t be a community hub?

2 minute read

When people think of care homes, they often imagine quiet corridors and closed doors. But at Millennium Care, the reality couldn’t be more different. Across our homes, we’ve built something far greater than places of care. All our sites are thriving communities in their own right where residents, families, staff, and neighbours come together.

Standish Care Village

At the heart of this vision is Standish Care Village, home to three of our care homes – Worthington Lake, Lakeside, and Langtree. Sitting side by side, these homes create a unique village environment where residents can enjoy continuity of care without ever leaving the site.

The Village ensures that as residents’ needs change, their community doesn’t. Familiar faces shared green spaces, and a vibrant programme of activities means that Standish Care Village is more than a care setting, it’s a neighbourhood in its own right.

Norley Hall

In Wigan, Norley Hall Care Home has become a cornerstone of its local community. Far from being inward-looking, the home regularly opens its doors to host events that bring people together. From coffee mornings and dementia support groups to seasonal fairs, Norley Hall is a place where residents and neighbours connect.

Perhaps most inspiring is The Pantry, a food bank run from the home itself. This initiative has supported local families in need for over 12 months, proving that care homes can be powerful forces for good well beyond their walls. For residents, participating in such charitable work creates a sense of purpose and pride, a reminder that they remain active contributors to their community.

Lavender Hills

Perched above the Rossendale Valley, Lavender Hills Care Home is not only known for its stunning views but also for its deep ties to the town it serves. The home is a familiar name in the community, regularly hosting and supporting events that bring people together.

From charity fundraisers to seasonal celebrations, Lavender Hills is a place where residents really integrate with the local area.

Across Millennium Care the message is clear, care homes are not isolated institutions, but living, breathing communities. Whether it’s the village-style model at Standish, the charitable outreach of Norley Hall, or the town-wide connections of Lavender Hills, each home proves that later life can be full of purpose, connection, and joy.

We know care homes can be communities can and, more importantly, we’re proud to show how.
