It’s this reputation that swayed Marian and her family towards choosing Lakeside as the place to provide her care in later life.
From the first phone call, Marian’s daughter Gillian felt reassured and supported. The team at Lakeside understands that moving into care can be an emotional and often overwhelming experience, not only for the resident, but for their loved ones as well. For many families, the process can feel daunting, with uncertainty about what to expect.
At each of Millennium’s homes, staff are on hand to support families every step of the way, offering reassurance, answering questions, and helping to make the transition as smooth as possible.
Marian celebrated her 100th birthday at the home earlier this month, surrounded by family and friends. The Lakeside team went above and beyond to make the day special, with personalised cards, a beautiful cake, and a relaxing pamper morning.
These moments aren’t reserved only for special occasions. Residents at Lakeside have a full and enriched calendar of activities to look forward to each week.
“We know of people who have been residents prior to mum and basically, they've all had such wonderful report about the care. Mum was living independently with increasing needs at home, and we always had an agreement that as long as she felt safe that she would remain in her home with support from family, and she said when the time is right, I will say. Lo and behold, last January, she said, I've made a decision, it's time for me now to get 24/7 care. She was determined, she had made her mind up and she said, I would like to go to Lakeside.
“Coming through the door, there was a feeling of warmth and family, and I think that was the overriding thing, it didn't feel at all institutionalised, it felt home, and from that moment, to bringing her in, to now, a year on, we have never looked back. Her life is full. She is so happy. There is not a day goes by where she doesn’t say, I thank God every day for here, and that to me is massive.
“She's thriving and we can see it. We can actually see it. She's so happy and she's made friends here. She has time on her own because she likes her reading, but she’s got options, and the entertainment, the activities, she's been on holiday. I couldn't believe it; she went away for a long weekend. It's just meeting her needs and more.
“I genuinely, honestly and sincerely could not recommend Lakeside highly enough. I have no words, really, to say how we value and appreciate what's going on here.”
Lakeside Care Home is one of three homes at Millennium Care’s Standish Care Village site, providing respite, residential, and nursing care.
