Millennium & Intergenerational Care

2 minute read

Millennium Care, a family-run, B-Corp accredited provider with homes across North West England, has been pioneering intergenerational care for several years. So much so, that it now forms a core part of the Group’s care strategy.

From baby and toddler groups to ongoing work experience programmes and pen pal schemes with local youth charities, these activities have brought wide-ranging benefits across all homes.

The outcomes have been consistently positive: enhanced social interaction, visible excitement and joy among residents, and increased participation, especially from individuals who might not typically engage in group activities. Most importantly, residents genuinely look forward to these sessions and the relationships they build through them.

For the younger generations, the benefits are equally powerful. These experiences offer meaningful opportunities to learn and grow, particularly for those who may not have older family members. Improved communication skills, greater confidence, and increased empathy are just some of the key takeaways.

The community bonds forged through intergenerational activity strengthen residents’ connection to the world beyond the care home. They promote positive ageing and showcase the wisdom and value older adults offer to younger generations.

This commitment to intergenerational care will be even more prominent with the completion of the Standish Care Village, a unique setting in Wigan that offers a continuum of care unlike anything else in the region.

The village brings together three homes, each offering different levels of support. All will benefit from enhanced care approaches, including intergenerational activity and non-pharmacological, holistic therapies rooted in nature, movement, and meaningful experience. Together, they support Millennium’s vision for ageing with elegance and vibrancy.

The final home within the Village is  Langtree Care Home, a state-of-the-art home supporting residents with advanced dementia. Intergenerational activities will be hugely beneficial for our new residents when Millennium opens its doors next month.

With support from Intergenerational England, Millennium continues to implement life-changing initiatives that not only support wellbeing today but will have a lasting impact on the communities they’re proudly part of.

Millennium will be sponsoring Intergenerational England's Access All Ages event in May, a showing of its commitment to the organisations, the work being done and the belief held in intergenerational care.
