Three Peaks & One Community. Thank you!

9 minute read

We’ve done it! Our Three Peaks Challenge is complete. Colleagues from across Millennium Care have now climbed the highest peaks in Wales, England and Scotland, and together with The Village Bean we have raised £2,334 for Wigan & Leigh Hospice.

Why Wigan & Leigh Hospice

Wigan & Leigh Hospice is part of the fabric of our community. It supports local people and their families at some of the most difficult moments of their lives, and many of our staff, residents and families have been supported by their work. As a care provider rooted in Wigan, we wanted our challenge to recognise and contribute to the outstanding work they do in our borough.

Three peaks, three months

We started with Snowdon on 31 July. Ten climbers, from care teams to head office colleagues and of mixed abilities, reached the summit in two and a half hours. Our residents joined us at the top, having travelled up on the Snowdon Mountain Railway, and enjoyed clear and spectacular views from the summit. That first climb alone raised over £1,000.

Scafell Pike followed on 28 August, and Ben Nevis on 25 September brought the challenge to a close.

Our residents took on their own walking challenge alongside us. Maureen from Lavender Hills set herself a 3.5-mile target and became the face of our campaign video. She reminded us why we do this: it was a challenge for the whole Millennium Care family, not only those who climbed.

The Village Bean’s contribution

The Village Bean, our community café at Standish Care Village, opened on 14th August. It was named by our residents, who also work behind the counter as baristas. Throughout September it donated its sales proceeds to the Hospice, raising an incredible £980.

Added to the £1,354 raised by our staff from across the Group, that brings our total to £2,334. Every cup of coffee and every pastry sold in that converted horsebox made a difference, and we are grateful to everyone who stopped by.

Thank you

Now that the last summit is behind us, we want to say thank you to everyone who made this possible.

To our staff: you trained, climbed, cheered, collected, baked and fundraised on top of the demanding work you do every day. You are the heart of Millennium Care.

To our residents, for your enthusiasm, your company at the top of Snowdon, and your own walking efforts.

To our suppliers and partners, for the support behind the scenes, from donations and printed t-shirts to sharing our story.

To the Wigan community, for your generosity, whether you donated, visited The Village Bean or simply sent us good wishes along the way.

What’s next

The Village Bean was designed as a place where our village and the wider community can come together, and this is just the beginning. Our events programme, including charity fundraising days, will give us plenty of chances to keep supporting the causes that matter to us.

From all of us at Millennium Care: thank you.
