There’s nothing quite like the smell of freshly baked bread straight out of the oven.

This has become a rather common staple at Brookdale Care Home following the introduction of our brand new kitchen in our Dementia-specialist hub.

Our open-plan communal living and dining room space has been uplifted with the addition of a glossy black kitchen purpose-built to encourage resident’s involvement in cooking and baking activities.

Cooking and baking is an excellent activity for residents to help rehabilitate a health relationship with food, especially for those with depression and dementia.

Being able to better include Culinary Therapy as a staple in our activities and wellbeing support is a brilliant way to promote a sense of self-worth and purpose in our residents.

It’s also a brilliant social activity for residents and carers to work together whether it’s making bread or cupcakes; whether it’s a first time or perhaps echoes a fond memory. Of course – it’s also a big bonus to have something delicious to sit down and enjoy together!

We’ve already been making the most of our new kitchen – take a look at some of our incredible creations below!
