Millennium are embarking on an informative series to break some of the misconceptions around life in a care home, especially a Millennium Care home.
One of the most important things for our homes and staff is ensuring our residents feel at home from the outset. So, how is this achieved?
Residents are encouraged to bring items that feel like home, decorate their bedrooms with photos, keepsakes and anything that puts them at ease. Of course, we have bedding and furniture, but bringing their own is always an option. There’s nothing like taking a load off in your own chair or being wrapped up in your own duvet!
Everyone has favourite spaces in their home, but how can we replicate this for our residents? Whether it’s as simple as a chair by a south-facing window, or a change of artwork in one of the communal spaces. If you don’t ask, you don’t get!
Millennium homes are well known for their activity provisions; they deliver meaningful, engaging and personalised activities which stimulate residents physically and mentally. Whether these are one-to-one sessions or group activities, they will find any resident’s niche.
Scuba diving, netball, volunteering, plane trips and even buggy riding on the beach. Any hobby can continue or start. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
Within the home, residents have access to smart televisions and digital radios, so they’re never without their favourite shows.
Two of Millennium’s homes operate a Household Model of Care; this approach has proven benefits to support those with dementia, helping residents live happier and healthier lives.
The home is centred around the communal kitchen and dining areas, creating a home-from-home that helps build friendships and long-lasting connections. The kitchen area creates purpose with residents able to ‘muck-in’, replicating life at home.
And there’s more to the dining experience; residents have a choice of food that is not only tasty and home-cooked but is nutritious and geared towards better health. Our Chefs will even rustle up favourite dishes, as long as residents can share the secret recipes…
There’s no reason a care home can’t feel like home, and staff at Millennium are more than happy to make those small adjustments that have a big impact on comfort and happiness.
We know what we like. Why change?
