Norley Hall Celebrates WhatsUp Champion Launch

3 minute read

This month, the ‘WhatsUp Champion’ launch event was attended by residents and staff from Norley Hall Care Home at St. Peter’s Pavilion in Hindley.

WhatsUp Champions are individuals based in a care setting who serve as advocates, are the voice for others and look out for their fellow residents. The programme was started by Wigan Council and Thrive.

The launch event, organised by Wigan Council, was an open discussion on safeguarding and safety.

“Today was about showcasing the initiative, giving people a voice, being champions and coming together as a community, opening networking opportunities and sharing stories.”

Anne Marie Clossick, Quality Performance Officer at Wigan CC

Pat and Margaret, residents at Norley Hall Care Home, are WhatsUp Champions and attended the event with Home Manager, Kathryn and Activity Coordinator, Julia.

Champion Pat was handpicked to appear in a promotional video by the Council explaining the group’s purpose, its importance and why she got involved.

“It’s so important to be a part of this. The staff at Norley are very good and we’re very content. It’s so nice that we can be so comfortable to approach our staff.

“I’m proud of being a part of something so important, it comes naturally to me. It’s more informal talking to me than a staff member so it comes more naturally for others to tell me if there are any issues which I can then report back.”

“I love supporting my residents and supporting each other. I’ve even got a catchphrase – ‘Hello, young lady!’ and it really works.”
