The grand opening!

5 minute read

Today Lakeside Care Home opened the doors of their brand-new bistro, welcoming residents their loved ones and staff members.

The new space has seen a tired lounge transformed into a classy communal hub giving visitors a casual setting to catch up and unwind.

Opening alongside a residents’ meeting, which provide opportunities for loved ones and residents to ask questions about the home and resolve any issues, the upgrade has drawn in its plaudits.

“It's a great meeting place, much better than using the other rooms or sticking to the bedroom. It's so bright and the decor makes it lovely and welcoming. It has lovely comfy seats and, it might seem strange, but a really nice smell! We're really happy with it and I'm sure it'll be used by people involved with the home!"

Katherine, Daughter of a Resident

The launch of the bistro coincided with the installation of a defibrillator for the home. Thanks to the fundraising efforts of staff, which was led by Carer, Sophie Harrison.

“I decided to fundraise because we were doing a First Aid course, we were discussing the importance of defibrillators and I felt for the safety and welfare of residents, staff and visitors we should have one!

“I set up a GoFundMe page and raised a good amount of money towards the cost, my colleague, Jayne did some baking for a bake sale which raised even more money and Millennium Care covered the remaining costs.

“I felt overwhelmed by the support of all the staff at Lakeside, so many people donated money towards it, and I felt so grateful. I had other donations from family and friends which all helped massively.

“To see the defib installed fills me with so much happiness and I feel a real sense of accomplishment. I also feel relief and safety both for myself and for everyone who comes to Lakeside.”

“Opening the Bistro and thanking staff for the fundraising they did to have our own Defibrillator installed is an amazing start to the year. The defib will provide a sense of comfort to residents, loved ones and staff that may have been previously missing.

“The Bistro is a great upgrade, with a country house feel it offers a place away from the hustle and bustle of the dining and living rooms. Everyone will have access to barista-quality drinks and of course a few treats! I look forward to seeing it in action.”
