Paws for a Cause

4 minute read

Each year, Worthington Lake’s House Guests pick charities they would like to support through December.

The home completed a 100km walk for Dementia UK and showed support for Breast Cancer Now by wearing pink and encouraging donations this year.

Therapy Dog, Buddy, prepared for the walk by adjusting his harness and bringing along his treats. Receiving the full support from the residents and his owner, Mel.

“We do this because it gives us an aim and purpose. Going out in the fresh air is great for my mental health, and if it works for me, it certainly will work for those with dementia.

“I love that everyone gets involved, it keeps us all engaged, and Buddy loved it! Everyone loves Buddy and in his role as a Therapy Dog, he loves spending time with everyone in the home.

“This is our second year doing it and we can’t wait to do it again next year.”

Mel Hart, House Carer

After sharing personal stories, House Guests also decided to raise funds for Breast Cancer Now.

“It came up in conversation in our residents' meeting. House Guests shared their personal stories about the condition, so we decided to raise funds for Breast Cancer Now alongside Dementia UK.

“We have developed a strong relationship with the charity and are currently collaborating closely. In the future, we will continue to offer our House Guests the choice to select their preferred charities and foster more connections.”

Alisha Bromley, Activity Coordinator

The team successfully managed to raise £614 which was shared between both charities.

“I’m incredibly proud of the home. Each year they manage to raise enough funds to make a difference and I’m looking forward to supporting more deserving causes soon.”
