On 31st July, ten of our climbers set off up Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa), the tallest mountain in Wales, as the first leg of the Millennium Care Three Peaks Challenge in aid of Wigan & Leigh Hospice.
The group reached the summit in two and a half hours! A cracking time given the mix of abilities in the team. Our climbers came from across the Group, including members of the head office team, all pulling together and keeping spirits high on the way up.
It was a real family affair, too. Gail, our Registered Manager, brought her two children along for the climb, and Paul from our maintenance team was joined by his two dogs, who, we're pleased to report, were kept very well hydrated throughout the day.
While the walkers took on the footpath, our residents made the journey up in comfort aboard the Snowdon Mountain Railway, and the timing could not have been better! Both teams arrived at the summit at almost exactly the same moment, meeting at the top for a proper celebration.
Seeing the looks on our residents' faces as they took in the views was the highlight of the day. It was a beautifully clear day, and the scenery from the summit was nothing short of spectacular. For many, it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
The day was full of smiles, laughter and friendship, and it's one we're certain everyone involved will be talking about for a long time to come. A huge thank you to the team at the Snowdon Mountain Railway for helping us make it happen.
Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, staff, families and friends, the Snowdon leg has already helped us raise over £1,000 for Wigan & Leigh Hospice.
Wigan & Leigh Hospice provides vital care and support to people living with life-limiting illnesses, and to their families, across our local communities. Every penny raised goes towards that work, so to everyone who has donated so far, thank you.
Next up is Scafell Pike on 28 August, followed by Ben Nevis on 25 September. Our residents are also taking on their own parallel walking challenge back at our homes, clocking up the miles in support of the team.
There's still plenty of time to get behind us. If you'd like to support the challenge, head over to our JustGiving page and donate whatever you can:
