Staff and residents from Millennium Care are lacing up their walking boots this summer to take on the gruelling Three Peaks Challenge, raising vital funds for Wigan & Leigh Hospice.
Between July and September, teams from across the Group will scale the UK's three highest mountains: Snowdon in Wales on 31st July, Scafell Pike in England on 28th August, and Ben Nevis in Scotland on 25th September. Together, the three peaks totals over 23 miles of walking and more than 3,000 metres of ascent — a serious physical undertaking for a cause close to the hearts of everyone at Millennium Care.
The challenge doesn't stop with staff. Throughout July, residents from Millennium Care's homes will be taking part in their own version of the challenge, walking a combined 3.5 miles — the equivalent distance to the Snowdon route — to show their support and be part of the fundraising effort in a way that works for them.
Funds raised will go directly to Wigan & Leigh Hospice, which provides specialist end-of-life and palliative care to people living with life-limiting illnesses across the Wigan Borough. Last year alone, the hospice cared for more than 1,400 patients, supporting them and their loved ones at home, in care settings, and on its 14-bed Inpatient Unit.
For Millennium Care, whose homes support elderly residents across the region, the connection to the hospice's work is a natural and deeply personal one. Many residents and their families will, at some point, rely on the kind of specialist palliative care the hospice provides — making this fundraiser more than a corporate initiative; it's a campaign that comes from the heart.

This isn't the first time Millennium Care has taken on the Three Peaks. Three years ago, in 2023, the team completed the same challenge in support of Alzheimer's Society, raising an impressive £3,610 for dementia research and support services — a cause that resonated deeply given how many residents across the Group live with dementia.
This year's team is determined to go even further, with a target of surpassing their previous total and making this the biggest fundraising challenge the Group has undertaken to date.
