Brookdale partners with Cinnamon Trust

3 minute read

Brookdale Care Home, based in Bury, has officially registered with the Cinnamon Trust, a national charity for the elderly, the terminally ill and their pets.

The Cinnamon Trust is the only specialist national charity which seeks to relieve the anxieties, problems, and sometimes injustices, faced by elderly and terminally ill people and their pets.

The Trust’s primary objective is to respect and preserve the treasured relationship between owners and their pets. To this end, it works in partnership with owners to overcome any difficulties that
might arise.

“We are delighted that Brookdale care home, part of the Millennium Care Group, has joined our register of Pet-Friendly Care Homes and look forward to working with the pets in their home”

Mrs Averil Jarvis MBE, Chief Executive and Founder

“I think this is a fantastic charity, we are firm believers in pet therapy and the benefits it has for our residents, this is why Brookdale is a pet friendly care home.

“It was a no brainer for me to register the home on to Cinnamon Trusts Pet Friendly Care Home Register.”

Tracey Leverton, Home Manager at Brookdale Care Home

The benefits of accommodating someone’s pet into care with them are limitless, including reducing the feeling of isolation and loneliness, providing links with the past and reassurance alongside
alleviating stress and much more.

“It makes such a difference to both owner and pet to stay together.

“Every year thousands of animals and elderly people find themselves saying a heart-breaking farewell, with the animals often headed to rescue centres to await re-homing — or sadly, in many
cases, euthanasia — causing misery and suffering to both.

“Research has shown that elderly people who have given up their pets to move home find it more difficult to adjust to life there, and often suffer a long period of depression whilst they grieve for their pet.

“This is why it is so important that pet friendly care homes and retirement estates do exist.”
