Care home couple renews vows

3 minute read

Worthington Lake Care Home has raised the bar in their ‘Make My Day’ campaign as a couple from the home had the opportunity to renew their vows.

Worthington Lake Care Home started the campaign last month and is giving all their residents the chance to make some long-lasting memories.

Jennifer Grant, House Assistant, came up with the idea of a wedding blessing for residents Rita and Jim to help them celebrate 66 years of a vibrant, successful marriage.

Rita and Jim eagerly agreed, and it was all hands-on deck! The home pulled together and arranged the blessing within 48 hours with an outdoor marquee, food and beverages, decorations and even a handmade wedding cake by the home’s cook!

“Days like today mean everything to us because we’ve got such a lovely memory of them together.

“Dad’s 90 next year and Mum’s 87 and they’re still together. He still loves her, and she still loves him so it was brilliant. It was Jenny’s idea and she put it to the management and made it happen so thank you Worthington Lake!”

Traci Lomas, daughter of the happy couple

The day went down in history for the home with residents, family and staff all joining the celebration for Rita and Jim in what was a highly emotional day.

“The blessing was the highlight of my career, it was such an emotional day filled with love. Living in a care home can bring new beginnings, new opportunities, and a new lease of life; everyone needs something to look forward to!”

Kim Jones, Home Manager at Worthington Lake

Worthington Lake would like to thank local businesses, Garlands Florist and Marshall’s, who donated flowers and Macdonald Kinley Court who have gifted a spa treatment to Rita and Jim.
