Bringing spring to Standish

2 minute read

Lakeside Care Home hosted a Spring Planting Workshop as part of Millennium Care’s Together at The Village initiative, which aims to embed a community within the newly completed Standish Care Village.

Hosted by the Wigan Wildlife Gardener, Ali Ball, a local gardener who also runs workshops within the community.

The event saw residents from both Lakeside and Worthington Lake Care Home in attendance alongside family members, friends of Millennium and members of the public.

Ali brought planters, a selection of plants, strawberry roots and a copious amount of soil for everyone to get stuck in with!

“The event was brilliant, it’s always great to mix with other homes and the community around us. Gardening offers a great opportunity for our residents, and lots of them have green fingers!

“One of our newer residents, Margaret, has been finding her feet at the home, and we’ve been trying to get her involved with lots of different activities without great success. But she came alive at the Planting Workshop, at one point juggling two arrangements!”

Karen, Activity Coordinator at Lakeside Care Home

The Standish Care Village comprises Lakeside, Langtree and Worthington Lake Care Home, with all homes providing differing levels of care.

Lakeside provides nursing care, Langtree supports dementia and nursing care, and Worthington Lake delivers dementia care. This provides residents and their loved ones with a level of continuity which is unrivalled in the region.

The next Together at The Village event will be a visit from Owl Adventures in April, who offer encounters with owls and birds of prey! Follow us on social media for regular updates.
